POWER TRADING means the buying and selling of electricity between various generators and SEBs, or large customers (either directly through bilateral contracts or from a central pool or through intermediaries).Here Electricity may be traded like any other commodity; any supplier can sell to any one through bilateral contract and dump the residual supply into the pool and also buy from the pool, to make up for the contract. Power trading, as an activity, is evolving rapidly in India. To facilitate electronic trading of power a national power exchange, Power Exchange India Limited will soon be operational. Currently, around 15 GWh of electricity is traded every year and there are four or five large trading players. In keeping with generation capacity in Jain Energy Limited, viability of the project/s will be better managed if involved in Power Trading activity. At present JEL has applied for trading license.
